Department of pathology offers a wide spectrum of services which are performed on fully automated instruments by our team of highly qualified and trained pathologist and scientific staff. All tests are processed on fully computerized systems and are performed under different sections of Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Histopathology, Cytopathology and Molecular biology. The laboratory has its established quality policies and works to achieve them. The department’s strength is its highly experienced team of Oncopathologist and senior scientific technical staff.

Haematology

Hematopathology has evolved as a distinctive part of laboratory services in last few decades. The complex nature of the hematological disorders especially the hematological malignancies requires specialized laboratory staff having vast experience of working in these areas. The lab staff working at Kanishk surgical and super specialty hospital is committed to provide precise and accurate diagnosis for their patients.
The hematopathology unit has a dedicated laboratory offering routine laboratory tests and specialized tests for the study of any hematological disorders. Department maintains SOPs and protocols and follows all standards. The laboratory is committed to improve the patient care by using latest diagnostic tools, training laboratory technical staff up to date and keeping clinicians informed of new developments in this rapidly changing area of laboratory medicine.

Bone marrow aspiration and Bone marrow biopsy

The laboratory is well equipped to conduct bone marrow aspirations and bone marrow biopsies on both OPD and IPD basis. The procedure is well explained to the patient and is conducted smoothly by experienced hands.
Pathologies such as leukemias , plasma cell disorders , ITP, Lymphomas , Anaemias and metastasis etc are often confirmed through these tests.

Biochemistry

Wide range of biochemical investigations are offered on all bodily fluids such as blood, urine, ascitic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, pleural fluid , synovial fluid etc The routine testing and specialized testing in areas like Tumor markers, Immunology, Hormones, Vitamins and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring. The biochemical testing is conducted by a team of highly skilled technical laboratory personnel. The team aims to provide excellent, cost-effective, evidence-based patient care with a medically relevant turnaround time. The biochemistry section has the most updated state-of-the-art equipment with complete backups which are 24 x 7 services. We have enrolled ourselves into proficiency testing programmes , both internal and external, and is designed in a manner to monitor each step of the testing process and helps us to provide quality results. Immunology

Cytology

Laboratory caters to OPD and IPD patients from all specialties. Diagnosis of malignancies/cancers, benign tumors, infectious diseases like tuberculosis, fungal diseases and parasitic diseases is provided on samples like cervical smears, Fluids including pleural, peritoneal, pericardial and cerebrospinal, urine, sputum, Bronchial washes, Broncho-alveolar lavage; and Brushings from various sites.

Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC): Diagnosis of superficial and palpable lumps as well as deep seated lesions performed under ultrasound or CT guidance is being provided with a high degree of accuracy. Aspiration of superficial and palpable lumps is done by cytopathologist in the laboratory itself. Samples are sent for Immunocytochemistry if required for further confirmation of diagnosis , where indicated. FNAC is often the first line of investigation in most palpable swellings nowadays.

Histopathology including oncopathology

  1. The department of Pathology includes the sections of Histopathology and Cytopathology. This section deals with processing and examination of tissues obtained after endoscopy, minor surgeries or major surgeries imcluding cancer surgeries. The quality of reporting is further enhanced by the fact that all CAP (College of American pathologists) protocols are followed while reporting every cancer case. This practice has helped department to deliver accurate and clinically useful reports to our clients. The consultant is an active member in all multispecialty clinics, Tumor board, contributing immensely in the diagnosis, predictive and prognostic outcomes, hence providing comprehensive patient care.
  2. The technical staff has been well trained for tissue conservation practices, delivering good quality sections, complimenting H & E with special stains.
  3. The blocks and slides of all patients are stored in hospital as per standard norms for future reference and archiving.

Clinical pathology

This section deals with all bodily fluids like urine, stool, sputum, peritoneal, cerebrospinal, pleural, pericardial and synovial fluid and examines their composition and chemical properties.

Serology

The laboratory has an Automated ELISA work station. Following tests are routinely done:

  1. Profiles for viral hepatitis B and C
  2. Rapid diagnostic tests for all major infectious diseases like: HIV
  3. Rapid test for Typhoid fever, Dengue fever, VDRL, Scrub typhus
  4. ELISA for dengue fever, Cytomegalovirus IgGand IgM, Herpes Simplex virus IgGand IgM, Toxoplasma IgGand IgM, Rubella IgGand IgM
  5. ELISA for Tissue Transglutaminase IgA
  6. ANA Profile

Molecular biology

Molecular diagnostics at Laboratory of Kanishk surgical and super speciality hospital has a fully automated Real time PCR instrument. The Laboratory maintains robust internal quality assurance programs in the face of emerging technologies, and an evolving landscape of biomarkers.

Microbiology

The section of Microbiology provides diagnostic services to the hospital regarding bacteriology, parasitology, immunology and serology. The department provides information on clinical material within the shortest possible time. With the round the clock laboratory services, the department carries out its microbiological services, from routine cultures to molecular diagnostic testing.
